BH MEDICAL PRACTITIONER MD

LINES OF AUTHORITY:  This position is supervised by Medical Director.  Unless specifically designated, this position does not supervise any other personnel.



POSITION SUMMARY:  Provides general psychiatric services to children and adults, including psychiatric evaluations, both routine and emergent, medications and medication management, forensic and Title 36 psychiatric evaluations and court testimony.  Provides on-call crisis coverage for after hours, provide psychiatric services in the SAF (Subacute Facility). Evaluates medical issues. 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.                  Heads treatment teams and coordinate with all team members.
2.                  Performs psychiatric evaluations, routine and emergent.
3.                  Prescribes medications and perform medication management.
4.                  Maintains after hour on-call crisis coverage with other psychiatrists.
5.                  Performs SAF admissions, ongoing treatment and discharge.
6.                  Performs Title 36 (involuntary) assessment court, hospitalization and testimony.
7.                  Provides customer service to internal and external customers and stakeholders.
8.                  Participates in the performance improvement processes in the Clinic.
9.                  The employee must work well under pressure meeting multiple and sometimes conflicting deadlines. The employee shall, at all times, demonstrate cooperative behavior with colleagues and supervisors.

1.        Able to effectively de-escalate clients using techniques as trained and outlined in approved crisis intervention models. 

PRIMARY CONTACTS:

?         Interaction with the Chief Executive Officer, peers, subordinates, other community medical staff, and court. 

POSITION REQUISITES:
Qualifications and Experience
Required:

?         Medical physician trained in General Psychiatry, 4 years (verified).

?         Fulfillment of required 20 hours Continuing Medical Education (CME) per year (on file).

?         Current Arizona physician license.

?         Satisfactory completion of 4 year general psychiatry residency program.

?         Credentialed by Mohave Mental Health Clinic, Inc. (MMHC).

?         Ability to obtain an Arizona fingerprint clearance card

?         Current driver's license and proof of auto insurance to drive Clinic vehicle

Preferred:

?         2-3 years experience. 

Skills/Abilities
Required:

?         Ability to analyze and assist in resolving clinic issues.

?         Ability to interact in a professional manner with other staff, subordinates, executive director, clinic.

?         Community contacts, clients, family members, hospitals, pharmacies, referring agencies, courts and law enforcement. 

Preferred:

?         Training in child and adolescent psychiatry. 

REQUIREMENTS FOR SPECIAL POPULATIONS

Persons conducting assessments and/or providing treatment to special populations are able, through training and experience as well as through agency-specific observation or testing of performance to demonstrate competency in the following areas: 

CHEMICAL DEPENDENCY

Staff responsible for providing services to chemically dependent members has appropriate training, education, experience, performance and demonstrate competency. 

Staff must be able to gather and assess information about:

?         The relationship of each member's physical status to the dependence.

?         The nature of the emotional compulsion to use alcohol and/or other drugs.

?         The intensity of the member's preoccupation with using alcohols and/or other drugs. 

Staff must also demonstrate competency in their ability to:

?         Interpret information about a member's use of alcohol and/or other drugs.

?         Develop a written summary and/or treatment plan based on member's problems and needs;

?         Provide appropriate services. 

CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS

Staff responsible for providing services to child and adolescent members have appropriate training, education, experience, performance and demonstrate competency.

?         Staff demonstrates knowledge of growth and development of children and adolescents.

?         Staff demonstrates their ability to develop treatment plans and services based on member's problem and needs.

?         Staff demonstrates knowledge and skill in working with family systems. 

SERIOUSLY MENTALLY ILL

Staff responsible for providing services to seriously mentally ill members has appropriate training, education, experience, performance and demonstrate competency.

?         Staff has knowledge and ability to gather and interpret information about seriously mentally ill members.

?         Staff understands the member's needs and the range, intensity, and duration of care, habilitation and rehabilitation required. 

MR/DD

Staff responsible for providing services to mentally retarded/developmentally disabled members has appropriate training, education, experience, performance and demonstrate competency.

?         Staff has knowledge and ability to gather and interpret information about a mentally retarded/developmentally disabled member.

?         Staff understands the member's needs and the range, intensity, and duration of care, habilitation or rehabilitation required. 

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Physical Requirements:

?         Able to sit, stand and walk for extended periods of time.

?         Occasional lifting (40 lbs.) and reaching.

?         Able to read and understand chart documents and other written communications. 

Equipment Operation

?         Dictaphone, telephone, FAX machine, personal car, weight scale. 

Preferred:

?         Computer, Windows office programs. 

Environmental Conditions

?         Air Conditioned and/or heated office setting.
